One simple cut or colour can make a celebrity totally unrecognisable.
It takes one movie role to leave an actor looking, well, rather strange for few months. We take a look at some hairstyles the stars have had to sport while filming new roles – and while sometimes the ‘do is actually better, it takes some time to get used to it. And we’re not talking about for them.
The Big Bang Theory star was known for her long blonde locks – until she started a new season with a short pixie cut, leaving everyone lost for words. While she’s luckily blessed with great genes, we did refer the long hair, however Kaley admitted that it was only done for a new movie role. She chopped the locks we all knew and loved for a movie she was filming in New Mexico – indie drama Burning Bodhi. After making the change, she even offered to wear extensions on The Big Bang Theory, but the producers were ‘on her side’ and wrote it in.
The actress lopped off her iconic chestnut waves for her role as Fantine in the critically-acclaimed Les Miserables – and boy was it a change! Sources reveal she even handed a fellow actress the scissors to do the haircut live on camera. Now that’s what we call dedication – and loving your job.
The hunky actor didn’t look quite that hunky when he shaved his hair off for his role in Gold. Throughout his lengthy career, the actor’s dabbled back and forth between shaggy shoulder-length locks and cropped haircuts, so the shaved look left us all a little lost for words, we must say.
While we don’t know if she really had the chop, or just put on a wig for her role as Princess Diana, she sure grabbed our attention with the new look. Apart from looking just like the former Duchess, we weren’t used to the Australian-born babe looking so conservative and all.
The Oscar-winning actress transformed her lovely blonde for Katniss Everdeen’s dark tresses in her role in The Hunger Games. The role has done her justice – and made her loads of money, so we bet she’s not complaining about the horrible hair ‘do now.
Dying your hair is one thing – shaving it off, as a women, is another. Natalie Portman, being the amazing actress that she is, took her role in V For Vendetta seriously, shaving her head – a harsh buzzcut we all turned heads over.
He is one gorgeous star – and somehow his look in Prince Of Persia made him even hotter. We loved the hair and the bod.
Vanessa ditched her trademark dark locks for bleached blonde tresses in Spring Break. Then again, with her features and great body, she could pull off anything.
For his role as cancer victim in 50/50, Joseph shaved his head on camera in a completely improvised moment. We still remember him starting out on 3rd Rock From The Sun.
The actress paved the way for stars like Natalie Portman, when she shaved her head for her role in G.I. Jane. But in true Demi style, she still managed to get men drooling.
We barely recognised Zooey when she sported angelic blonde locks in Elf. The star had admitted that she dyes her naturally brown hair black, but the sudden change to blonde was a difference for her – and the rest of us.
There’s no denying this star will do anything to make her part more realistic – and there’s no questioning the fact that Hilary convincingly played a young transgender man in Boys Don’t Cry, shedding her long locks and make-up to allow herself to fully embrace the role.
The gorgeous red head coloured her hair for a Spider-Man role – and she didn’t make a slight change either. Emma hit the peroxide to play Gwen Stacy on the popular movie franchise.
