Blokes Hair is a small, personal driven boutique hair salon in the heart of Green Point, Cape Town rated by Cape Town Magazine as one of Cape Town’s top 10 hairdressers for men. Opened in 2011 by owner and ‘Queen Of Cuts’, Brian Oosthuizen, Blokes has become known to Capetonians and especially men who appreciate a haircut that oozes passion. The vintage pictures and leather wingback give the place an antiquated charm without losing any of its modern sophistication. Brian has travelled far and wide on his journey to hair perfection. Starting in Bloemfontein, and then onto London, Brian started as a receptionist in a salon and eventually began professionally styling hair. He then returned to bustling Cape Town where he was recently placed as one of the top 10 stylists in Cape Town by GQ magazine. He has also been featured in publications such as Cape Town Magazine, M magazine and the Sunday Times. Brian works with many international men’s magazines to maintain the high standards set by Blokes Hair. He has managed to grow the salon into one of the most amazing and entertaining spots in Cape Town. Blokes Hair recently introduced an online booking system, it’s own exciting organic product range and now has two fantastic new stylists, Jason and Jordy. They were both hand-picked by Brian so as to maintain the exceptional standards of hair-cutting and service that he has become famous for since starting Blokes Hair in 2011. Together, the Blokes Hair Team lead the way with men’s haircuts in the city and look forward to expanding the business in the near future.
“I’m not into manufacturing hair,” adds Brian. “I believe that cutting hair should be an experience where the client receives a hair style custom-made to fit their unique personality and panache. My haircuts last for months. They grow out in the style that my clients prefer.” A big trend at the moment, says Brian, is the business haircut. “A cut that is reasonably short on the sides so it lasts six to eight weeks and not too much length in front, also minimal styling products to avoid the hair looking greasy. A lot of guys tend to put too much wax in front. When you’re styling your hair distribute the wax throughout both your hands and start applying at the back of the hair, then towards the middle and then your last stroke in front.”
