Your eating disorder isn’t just killing your body, but your hair too. Most people have eating disorders because they are obsessed with looking good. The ironic part is, an eating disorder isn’t going to just mess up your health, but it’s going to destroy your appearance too. While you are starving your body to fit into those skinny jeans, you’re going to have bigger issues when you’re spending your time trying to cover up your dry skin, hide your brittle nails and find something to brush on the top of your head. Eating disorders have a profound impact on an individual. For years, men and women have been battling disorders like anorexia and bulimia, but what they don’t realise is that they are killing not just their self-esteem, relationships and physical well-being, but their self-image too. Often associated with mood swings, anxiety disorders and personality disorders, eating disorders are also linked to substance abuse problems and obsessive-compulsive disorders. While we all have the urge and need to look and feel good, the preoccupation with being thin can take over your life – you will lose the ability to see yourself as you truly are. An eating disorder cannot just damage your health, but it can threaten your life too. The process of starvation affects most organ systems, and a number of health issues, such as constipation, abdominal stress, hypotension and an abnormally low heart rate can be just some of the consequences. And as if destroying your health is not bad enough, you’re destroying your appearance too. Physical signs such as acne and/or hair loss are common with those suffering from the disorder.
